Community
Creating a welcoming space where athletes and families of all ages and stages—from PreK to adult—to feel connected, supported, and valued within a shared club community is an important part of who we are!
Healthy Competition
We embrace competition that challenges athletes appropriately, builds confidence, and supports long-term development—without losing sight of enjoyment and love for the game.
Positive team culture
Effort, kindness, and sportsmanship matter as much as results for all ages in our program. We use sport to connect people, foster respect, and strengthen our club and the greater community.
Connection
Building relationships that extend beyond the field, connecting athletes to a broader field hockey network that supports mentorship, college pathways, and long-term opportunities are very important to us.
Multi-sport athletes
We welcome multi-sport athletes, whose schedules don’t fit traditional club models. With a deep understanding, we encourage them to explore, balance, and play year-round without being forced to choose just one sport.
Flexibility for busy families
We value thoughtful scheduling — prioritizing balance by respecting school calendars, family commitments, work schedules, and the realities of everyday life.
Lifelong participation
Our adult program reminds us why we fell in love with the game in the first place—play brings people together. "Staying in the Game" isn’t limited to time on the field, and we love to build passion that stays for life. We encourage coaching, mentoring, officiating, cheering, and leading in ways that ensure the next generation has the same opportunity to fall in love with hockey.
Opportunities, not requirements
A regular season creates team connection and consistency. Undertow Club provides optional opportunities that allows families to extend learning and play in ways that fit their schedules while supporting balance, excitement, and a lifelong love of play.

Our Mission
Tidewater Undertow Field Hockey Club exists to grow the game of field hockey in the Richmond region by providing inclusive, developmentally appropriate opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities. We are committed to skill development, teamwork, athleticism, and healthy competition—grounded in sportsmanship and fair play—creating a welcoming environment where players, families, coaches, and volunteers feel connected and supported.
Our Vision
Rooted in Richmond’s rich field hockey legacy, we envision a thriving, multi-generational community club where athletes begin with curiosity, grow with confidence, and carry the stick forward for years to come. Through accessible programming, strong relationships, and a culture that values both competition and connection, Tidewater Undertow aims to strengthen the sport locally while building lifelong players, leaders, and community members.
