Once athletes are enrolled in the regular season (10 Sunday practices per season), families can take advantage of expanded training and competition opportunities. For players participating in tournaments, a two-practice-per-week rhythm is encouraged to support growth, teamwork, and long-term development.
As part of our Accelerated Track, more practices are offered during the spring (River City, Midlothian), summer leading into the high school season (River City, Midlothian), and winter (Sports Reality, Mechanicsville) providing athletes with high repetitions in a smaller group setting where feedback is at the forefront.
These sessions are led by a consistent seasonal coach, though this coach may differ from the athlete’s Sunday head coach, ensuring continuity while staying aligned with the overall program.
Participation in these practices outside of regular season enrollment (Total of 23 sessions between January and June) is strongly encouraged for athletes who compete in tournaments regularly.
Local tournaments and play days are designed to be fun, competitive, and rewarding — a chance to enjoy time with teammates, put new skills into action, and compete in a high-energy game environment. While results can vary, our focus is on performance, growth, and applying training in real game situations, with athletes placed in competitive divisions that appropriately challenge and develop them.
In addition to developmental play days and tournaments that are open to all players, select players may be invited to compete in certain tournaments in more competitive brackets representing Undertow. Players selected for these opportunities are typically demonstrating advanced technical skills, game understanding, and readiness for higher-level competition, and will generally compete within their birth-year age group rather than their developmental practice group.
National tournaments also provide opportunities for athletes to be seen by college coaches and represent Undertow on a larger stage.
Our adult program welcomes players ages 16 and up and brings together athletes from a wide range of playing backgrounds, careers, and life stages. Many of our adult players also serve as coaches, umpires, and mentors, offering valuable experience and connections throughout the club.
Undertow players who participate at the adult level will remain together, split across two teams, with schedules planned thoughtfully around Undertow practices. The spring season also provides a unique opportunity for players to compete on Astroturf, offering a higher-level playing experience during the Spring.
We are thrilled to welcome Next Level Coaching (NLC) Camp back to our area this summer! This is such a special opportunity for our athletes to train at a high level — while also getting to share the experience with their high school teammates and their Undertow teammates.
Even better — For all Club level athletes enrolled in Undertow this summer, one full day of NLC Camp is included as part of our summer programming ($75 value). It’s our way of continuing to invest in skill development while keeping our athletes training together.
