Regular season is all about building skills, deepening understanding of the game, developing Hockey IQ, and growing together in a structured setting. We aim to prepare our athletes for high-level high school play and beyond with intentional training, competitive opportunities, and a commitment to long-term development-- all while having fun!
We are now actively encouraging a year-round enrollment approach that spreads practices throughout the year to promote consistent training, team continuity, and long-term athlete development, while still allowing flexibility for multi-sport athletes to remain fully engaged.

Historically, Undertow has seen higher enrollment during the Winter and Spring seasons, so more frequent practices were held during those parts of the year. While that traditional heavy-in-two-seasons / light-in-two-seasons model will still remain an option, we are now actively encouraging families to consider a year-round enrollment approach.
This updated structure centers on a once-a-week Sunday practice offered year-round. When viewed across the full calendar, the total number of practices is comparable to the previous seasonal model—but the impact is greater. Consistent, steady training keeps athletes on the same developmental path, allows teams to build continuity, and supports long-term growth rather than restarting momentum each season.
Moving to a lighter, year-round schedule helps us:
Maintain skill progression without seasonal drop-offs
Build stronger team chemistry
Create a more cohesive, competitive program
Provide clearer planning and predictability for families
Complement—not compete with—other sports
This shift represents an important step in evolving Undertow into a more unified and competitive program, while still respecting the flexibility families need. If you have questions about this program structure or what option may be the best fit for your player, please reach out to Catherine, our Director of Player Development, at directors@tidewaterunder.com. We’re happy to help you think through what works best for your family.
Once athletes are enrolled in the regular season (10 Sunday practices per season), families can take advantage of expanded training and competition opportunities. For players participating in tournaments, a two-practice-per-week rhythm is encouraged to support growth, teamwork, and long-term development.
